Vemana’s poems on Brahmam – Philosophy

Vemana is great Telugu philosopher and poet born in mid 17th c AD. Vemana’s poems are filled with facts and provide practical guidance to life.

1. Everything is Brahmam, Brahma padaardham

Bhoomilona buttu bhoosaaramellanu
Tanuvulona buttu tatvamella |
Shramalona buttu sarvambu taanaunu
Vishwadaabhiraama vinura Vemaa ||

Soil’s fertility comes from earth, philosophy/ tatvam comes from body
What we see as results of our hardwork is nothing but Brahma.

Everything is Brahmam, Brahma padardham. To understand tatvam we need to meditate with pure mind.

2. Aatma is within us which is part of paramatma the supreme being

. Brahma managa vere paradesamuna ledu
Brahma manga taane batta bayalu |
Tannu taanerigina taane po Brahmambu
Vishwadaabhiraama vinura Vemaa ||

Brahma, Brahma jnanam is not in celestial place. Self is Brahma and one who knows self is Brahma

Aham Brahmasmi , I am Brahman , I am infinite reality.

Aatma  is within us which is part of paramatma the supreme being. Its like we are drops in a ocean.

3. Ultimate reality is innerself and everything else is illusion/ Maaya

Manasulone putte maayasamsaaram
Manasu virigeneni maaya tolagu
Manasu nilpeneni mahi taane Brahmam
Vishwadaabhiraama vinura Vemaa ||

Samsaaram is illusion and it starts with mind. When mind is broken Maaya is removed
when mind is focused to innerself one can feel Brahmam.

Ultimate reality is innerself and everything else is illusion/Maaya

4. Brahmam is all pervasive Adi shakthi

Brahma medayanuchu palumaarunaaderu
Verri moorkhajanula vidhamujooda |
Brahma mannitandu paripoornamai yundu
Vishwadaabhiraama vinura Vemaa ||

Fools question where is Brahma repeatedly. They do not know that Brahmam is all pervasive Adi shakti, omni present supreme being.

Brahmam is all pervasive Adi shakthi
